'Seva' (pronounced as 'say-va'), is a sanskrit word referring to the selfless service performed for a cause without expecting any form of personal reward; benefit; or, recognition. I was fortunate to have been given an opportunity to take part in some of these 'seva' trips to remote villages in Indonesia. The main purpose was to distribute food; clothing; medicine; etc. to the less fortunate. As usual, I had my camera with me and I took these shots when I had some time on my hands. It is interesting to see how contended they were with so little...perhaps, we might be able to learn from them. Note: The pictures are all candid in nature as no attempt was made to 'pose' the subject in any way whatsoever. I have concentrated mainly on the children as I found them very interestingly expressive. Curious; playful; excited; apprehensive; and, never masking their emotions. |
